Benefits of Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a specialty in dentistry which involves the total dental and facial development of the jaws and mouth. Properly aligned teeth, well balanced jaws, and a pleasing facial profile all help to improve one's ability to chew, speak, and smile with confidence. By wearing braces, you are taking a positive step toward improving the health of your mouth as well as your appearance for a lifetime. Fortunately, this investment in your future is obtainable at virtually any age.
The Initial Examination
Our first visit together begins with a complimentary initial examination and a discussion to determine your orthodontic concerns. At this time we encourage you to ask questions as we explain our findings regarding your particular orthodontic needs. Should treatment be necessary our next step would be to schedule you for diagnostic records and a case presentation.
Diagnostic Records and Case Presentation
In order to determine your best treatment plan, a comprehensive set of orthodontic records is necessary. Study models, which are made from upper and lower impressions of the bite, show how the teeth and jaws fit together. X-rays appropriate for the individual are taken to examine skeletal and dental structures and to analyze growth potential. Photographs are also taken to illustrate facial characteristics.
We will then present to you the orthodontic records we have obtained and explain what we have learned from studying this information. Our emphasis here is to recommend to you your treatment options, to answer any additional questions you may have, and to help you make informed decisions regarding the direction of your orthodontic treatment. By being involved in the treatment planning process, you will feel a sense of accomplishment at its completion.
Visiting the Dentist during Orthodontic Treatment
It is very important that you continue to visit your family dentist once every six months, even during your orthodontic treatment, for teeth cleanings and routine dental checkups. If extra dental care is needed, we will be happy to coordinate with your family dentist to make sure that you are receiving the best care possible.
Visiting the orthodontist every 4-8 weeks is an important part of your orthodontic treatment. Regular checkups last between 20-40 minutes. Our practice will work with you to make sure that your appointments are scheduled around your busy schedule.
We take pride in providing orthodontic care that is superior in quality and yet still affordable to those who seek our help. We will determine the fee for your orthodontic treatment according to the complexity of your case. It is our policy to inform patients of the cost prior to service. A full treatment case is generally financed over the estimated duration of treatment. We are pleased to help you submit any insurance you may have.
Each patient is a valuable and contributing member of our practice. Any ideas or suggestions on how we may better serve you will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for coming to our office for your orthodontic care.
